Produced with research partners, Professor Ann Bostrom’s recent paper “Comparative risk science for the coronavirus pandemic,” published in the Journal of Risk Research, uses comparisons between pandemics and climate change to explore how heeding, or ignoring, risk science may impact countries’ ability to cope with coronavirus outcomes.

The second paper, “Developing post-alert messaging for ShakeAlert, the earthquake early warning system for the West Coast of the United States of America,” published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, explores how a post-alert messaging system might represent system performance and ultimately enhance the effectiveness of warnings, as ShakeAlert, the earthquake early warning system for the West Coast of the U.S., begins its transition to operational public alerting.
