Evans School Faculty Laura Evans Examines Wind Electricity Projects by Native American Tribal Communities

With greater interest and activity around wind energy policy and projects, Evans School Associate Professor Laura Evans, along with co-authors Nives Dolšak and Aseem Prakash of the University of Washington, examine how Native American tribal communities pursue wind energy projects. The results from a study of wind electricity and turbine project adoption across 286 tribal nations was published recently in PLOS ONE. The authors find that tribal nations with strong governance structures, as well as federal investment and the presence of turbines in the surrounding state, are key factors associated with the greater likelihood of completed wind energy installation projects.  For more details, the article can be found here:  https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0261752
