Global MPA Program Expands with SOAS University of London and Korea Development Institute

This fall, the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance solidified agreements with two new academic partners, the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and SOAS University of London, expanding the school’s Global Master of Public Administration to five partner institutions.

The KDI School of Public Policy & Management offers three degree possibilities in conjunction with the Evans School Global MPA, including a Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Management, and Master of Development Practice. All programs draw on the comprehensive and interdisciplinary research capacity of KDI, the top think tank in Korea.

SOAS University of London offers a Master of Science in Public Policy, Finance and Management, which provides students with a conceptual understanding of the core principles of public policy and public management as well as the tools to address public sector challenges from the eradication of poverty to unemployment and the development of energy power.

“We are very excited about the addition of the two new partners — including our first in Europe — in this innovative dual degree program,” said Evans School Director of International Executive Education and Associate Professor Scott Fritzen. “It offers a truly transformative experience to students, who will develop networks, analytical perspectives and formal qualifications from elite universities in two parts of the world — certainly a unique position from which to enter the job market or further education.”

Global MPA students spend their first year, plus one summer, at the Evans School completing a comprehensive core curriculum alongside all other first-year MPA students. Students then spend their second year studying a range of core, electives and specializations with a partner institution of their choice.

The catalog of Global MPA partner institutions now includes: SOAS University of London, Victoria University of Wellington, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, KDI School of Public Policy & Management, and Tsinghua University.

Successful completion of both years earns students two master’s degrees in two years: the Evans School Global Master of Public Administration, and the degree received from the partner institution of students’ choice.  With theory and a practical skillset unique to two cultural contexts, graduates are equipped with the skills they need to improve public policy, pursue powerful ideas and advance their capacity to lead internationally.
