The more than 1.5 million students in the United States who experience homelessness are entitled to educational support through the Education for Homeless Children & Families program, many of whom are not identified and never receive this support. Through a randomized controlled trial across 1,732 local education agencies in New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York, Associate Professor Crystal Hall and research partners studied how increased email communication, which incorporated behavioral insights to target homeless liaison staff, increased the identification of homeless students eligible to receive educational support.
