Ayala Wineman joined the Evans School as a Research Associate in September 2017. She earned a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics from Michigan State University. Her research relates broadly to poverty and rural development in sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, her past research has emphasized food security measurement and the effects of climate variability and climate change in East and Southern Africa. More recently, she has focused on the topics of land access, land markets, and migration in East Africa. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a math and English teacher in Guyana and Ethiopia.
