Evaluating Phố Đẹp

How can Seattle better understand whether changes in Little Saigon are improving community safety and well-being?

How can evaluation help a community-led initiative understand progress, learn, and adapt over time?

EPIC is partnering with Friends of Little Sài Gòn and the Seattle Police Department to build a foundation for evaluating Phố Đẹp, a community-led initiative focused on safety and livability in Seattle’s Little Sài Gòn neighborhood.

Together, the project partners are developing an evaluation approach that can support learning during implementation and help understand the initiative’s processes and impacts over time.

What we’re working on

The project is building the tools and research foundation needed to support evaluation over time.

  1. Build the evaluation framework

Co-develop a five-year research and evaluation design, including the questions and measures that can guide learning over time.

  2. Build ways to learn from community

Develop adaptable tools for gathering qualitative and quantitative information, including community surveys and stakeholder engagement.

  3. Build capacity for ongoing learning

Support community facilitators to collect qualitative information and create systems that can continue beyond the initial evaluation period.

What this work will produce

  • A five-year research and evaluation design
  • Research questions and measures for ongoing evaluation
  • Adaptable data-collection tools, including a community survey
  • A train-the-trainer approach for community facilitators
  • An accessible report documenting the research plan and preliminary analysis
