Congratulations to our Evans School APPAM 2021 Equity & Inclusion Fellows!

The Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) Equity & Inclusion Fellowship program supports the participation of 40 students, including Evans School PhD Student Arielle Weaver, and five young professionals from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the 2021 APPAM Fall Research Conference, held November 11-13 in Austin, TX. The fellowship program’s goal is to introduce recipients to APPAM, the world of public policy, and foster a lifelong affiliation and engagement with both.

Arielle’s research interests are aligned with addressing issues of social equity, access, opportunity, and advancement for marginalized populations. She shared, “[I] look to examine the policies, practices, and environments that negatively impact leadership opportunities for women of color in the public sector.” During the conference, Arielle hopes to connect with students and scholars across the field that have comparable research interests as herself. She added, “the network of peers from underrepresented backgrounds that I would gain among the other fellows is immeasurable.”

While at the conference, Arielle will have the opportunity to formally network with other fellows and with members of the Policy Council and Diversity Committee, who will recognize the fellows and their accomplishments. She will also have  an opportunity to network with other students and professionals during the conference and will be joined by the 2020 Equity & Inclusion Student Fellowship recipients, who were unable to attend an in person conference in 2020.
