Fyall, Moore, and Gugerty Publish New Article
Rachel Fyall, Kathleen Moore (Evans School Ph.D. Alum), and Mary Kay Gugerty recently published an article in Nonprofit and Private Sector Quarterly titled “Beyond NTEE Codes: Opportunities to Understand Nonprofit Activity Through Mission Statement Content Coding”. The article introduces a methodological innovation for categorizing nonprofits. Harnessing advances in data availability and machine-reading technology, we use automated dictionary analysis of mission statement text to group “like” nonprofits. Our method proves more comprehensive and more accurate than the conventional method (NTEE codes) for identifying a group of housing- and shelter-related nonprofits.
