Academic Calendar

When do classes start? When do classes end? When are the breaks and holidays?

For payment deadlines, quarter start and end dates, holidays and breaks, please visit the UW Academic Calendar. For admitted students: For your cohort-specific course schedule, please visit your Canvas course page(s) or onboarding page.

Attendance

What if I need to miss a course meeting? Do I have to attend every course meeting?

Course meetings may be in person or online and participation is expected at all meetings. The small number of total course meetings, whether in person or online, make class time very precious. In cases of illness, emergency or other events, please contact your course professor as soon as possible to make alternative arrangements. The sooner your professor is aware of your situation, the better they can support you.

Course Schedule

When are the courses? What is the class meeting schedule?

Evans will always aim to make course meeting schedules available as far in advance as possible so that you may build these dates into your personal and professional calendars. For upcoming cohort schedules, please visit the Leading Public Innovation Graduate Certificate page and scroll to Innovation Partnerships, Program Schedule, Tuition and Fees. Current students, please visit your Canvas course page(s) or your onboarding page.

Employer Sponsorship

How do I know if my employer is a sponsor or organizational partner? Can I participate if my employer doesn’t sponsor me?

The Evans School is partnering with employers to identify practice-based projects, executive sponsors, and decrease tuition costs for participants. Evans School Graduate Certificate participants whose employers pay at least 1/3 of the total program tuition receive an Evans School scholarship covering an additional 1/3 of the tuition.

Unaffiliated applicants (i.e. students not applying through an Evans organizational partner) are also welcome! To find out if your employer is a partner or existing sponsor or to learn more about how your employer can become a partner, please email evansadm@uw.edu.

GPA Requirement for Admission

What if I don’t have the 3.0 minimum GPA required of graduate certificate program applicants?

This program is designed for mid-career professionals. We understand that mid-career professionals possess a wealth of professional experience and that their past grades may not fully reflect their current experience, knowledge or readiness for graduate study. There are several paths forward for applicants without the required minimum GPA. If you have any concerns about your GPA, please reach out to our Admissions team at evansadm@uw.edu to discuss options.

Immunization Records

Do I have to submit my immunization records?

To protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, academic personnel, staff, and broader community, the University of Washington requires all students to be vaccinated against Measles, Mumps, and Meningitis Meningococcal ACWY, with certain exemptions allowed.  To review the details of this requirement and to find out how to submit your records, please visit the UW Immunity Verification Requirement page. If these requirements are not met, students will not be able to register for classes. Students are responsible for their own immunizations and requirements, and must submit documents themselves.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine required?

For the most up-to-date information on vaccine requirements, please visit the UW Immunity Verification Requirement page.

Mid-Career Professionals in the Classroom

What if I have been out of school for a long time?

This program is designed for mid-career professionals. We welcome you and we understand that, for some, it may be decades since you were last in the classroom. We are prepared to support and guide you through the challenges of returning to school after some time away.

Time Commitment

How many hours per week will I commit to the program outside of class time? While coursework and study hours (independent reading, completion of assignments or meetings with peers) will vary from quarter to quarter and week to week, students should expect to spend up to 10 hours per week on graduate certificate coursework. The certificate is a graduate level program and the time and intensity is commensurate with this level of study.

Transcripts

Do I need to submit official transcripts?

You may submit unofficial transcripts in the application stage. Upon acceptance into the graduate certificate program, you will need to submit official transcripts. The Evans School cannot accept official transcripts. These must go through the UW Graduate School. For more detail and for the most up-to-date information, visit the Graduate School page on Official Transcript Requirements.

U-PASS

What is the U-PASS?

The U-PASS is a transportation benefit for all UW students. Loaded right onto the Husky Card, the U-PASS provides members with unlimited rides on regional buses, commuter trains, light rail and water taxis as well as full fare coverage on vanpools. The pass is provided as part of a mandatory student fee. All students who pay the Service & Activities Fee (SAF) are automatically members of the Universal Student U-PASS program. This means that even if students do not intend to utilize the pass, they still receive the pass as part of their mandatory student fees. There is not way to opt out of the pass or fee. Oversight of this program is through a student advisory board appointed by the ASUW and GPSS.
