Dean’s Message

Dean Jodi Sandfort

Welcome to the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy & Governance, a policy partner and leader with impact rooted throughout the Pacific Northwest and extending far beyond. For more than 60 years, the Evans School has built a reputation as one of the top public policy and management schools in the nation. As one of the first public universities in the United States to offer a degree in public administration, serving the public is a critical part of the Evans School’s history, our identity, and our philosophy. It is also the foundation for our future.

The current political environment is straining relationships in our families, communities, at the state legislature and in our nation’s capitol. At the Evans School, we know there are times in the nation’s history in which public governance is strained and public values are seemingly overlooked. But we also know that individuals and communities can always make a positive difference, taking risks to have difficult conversations, learning how to compromise, demanding ethical public leadership, implementing solutions to pressing social problems. And that is what we are doing. We educate leaders. We generate knowledge, often working with practitioners and policy leaders. We host communities to co-create a more inclusive society. We do these things because we are clear that all benefit from a democratic system that includes and serves everyone.

Join us and learn how you can be part of building the democracy that we need.
