In August of 2022, the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance hosted Leading Courageously in Higher Education. This was the first Art of Hosting & Harvesting Conversations That Matter experience ever held on the University of Washington campus. Participants spoke highly of the program, growing interest to expose others to these powerful practices and deepen learning for those who have been practicing since. In August of 2023, the Leading Courageously in Higher Education program will be offered a second time.
The Art of Hosting and the Art of Harvesting dance together as two halves of the same thing. There is a breadth and a depth to both, so much so, that it is not possible to cover everything in 3 days. Thus, an Art of Harvesting program will be offered in advance of the 3-day Leading Courageously experience to provide the opportunity to deepen practices in meaning making.
Engage participants to make meaning together. Make collective insights visible. Create artifacts to move forward wiser action.
The Evans School of Public Policy & Governance invites friends and colleagues to experience, explore, practice ways that build skills to expand your capacity to plan, design, and communicate. Learn skills that can be put into practice immediately.
Some of the concepts that will be covered include:
- the power of visuals (brain stuff, uses)
- overcoming an “I can’t draw” mindset (you got this!)
- basic elements of graphic facilitation (people, banners, lettering, etc)
- developing a visual vocabulary (visuals for words)
- listen, think, draw (a visual harvesting skill set)
- sense making and knowledge sharing (visual flows, templates)
Play and practice will be central tenets of the workshop.
Program participants will be equipped with tools they need to grow their visual practice during and after the workshop experience. The base set of materials will include a set of visual practice cards, a basic A5 sketchbook, and a good pen. Markers will also be provided.
