The Art of Harvesting Conversations that Matter

June 16 @ 10:00 am - July 16 @ 5:00 pm

Join us for a Workshop on the Art of Harvesting!

Over the past three years, Evans School of Public Policy & Governance has been proud to host 3-day participatory leadership experiences called The Art of Hosting & Harvesting Conversations that Matter. We have seen this community grow, inspired by participant’s leadership and efforts to authentically activate our community by applying what was learned in these sessions!

The Art of Hosting and the Art of Harvesting are two halves of a transformative practice. Hosting focuses on holding space and inviting people into meaningful dialogue. Harvesting informs how we plan and design intentional engagements, make collective insights visible, support sense-making, and create tangible artifacts that fuel wise action. There is a breadth and depth to both and a lot of intentional work to be fully present, bear witness, be attuned to a group, and honorably harvest what surfaces. In 2023 and 2024, we offered workshops in Art of Harvesting. In 2025, we are pleased to share this valuable opportunity again.

Engage participants to make meaning together.

Make collective insights visible.

Create artifacts to move wiser action forward.

The Art of Harvesting is a series of workshops that take a deeper dive into the concepts and practices of harvesting. Experience, explore, and practice ways that build skills to expand your capacity to plan, design, and communicate. Learn skills that can be put into practice immediately. Bring your engagement work to these sessions for a hands-on learning experience. Come join us as we go on an exploration of harvesting conversations that matter!

This 3-session workshop series is open to members of our UW and external community. If you have participated in one of our previous Art of Harvesting offerings, please share this opportunity with a colleague or sign up again if you would like a refresher or more practice harvesting.

Some of the concepts that will be covered in Art of Harvesting include:

  • The harvest approach and strategic harvesting framework (intangible, tangible, individual, collective)
  • Different forms of harvest (harvest documents, art, photos, etc.)
  • Collaborative sense-making online (MURAL, Google Suite, and other tools) and with visuals (flows, templates)
  • Power dynamics in harvesting (sharing power and being mindful of the power we hold)
  • Basics of visual harvesting and developing a visual vocabulary (visual elements)
  • Application of learning (work on an engagement/project while in the training)

Play and practice will be central tenets of the workshop.
