Allison Kelly (Ph.D. ’17) Receives Honorable Mention for 2018 APPAM Dissertation Award

Evans School Ph.D. graduate Allison Kelly ’17 has received an honorable mention for the 2018 Association for Public Policy Analysis & Management (APPAM) Dissertation Award. Dr. Kelly’s dissertation, “Improving REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) Programs”, presents three papers on the policy issues surrounding REDD+ and payment of ecosystem services programs. Dr. Kelly, who is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the International Forest Resources and Institutions Group at the University of Michigan, has been invited to present her work at APPAM’s annual conference this November in Washington, D.C.

Adam Hayes Named 2018 NASPAA Emerging Scholar

Evans School Ph.D. candidate Adam Hayes has been named a 2018 NASPAA Emerging Scholar. This national award recognizes doctoral students who are nearing the end of their studies and are expected to be competitive candidates on the academic job market in the following year. Adam will present his job market paper “Multiplex Network Analysis for Complex Governance Systems Using Surveys and Online Behavior” at the NASPAA Annual Conference in Atlanta this October.

Additionally, Adam was awarded the Pi Alpha Alpha Doctoral Manuscript Award by NASPAA. This award recognizes an outstanding paper by a doctoral student and will also be presented to Adam at the NASPAA Annual Conference in October.

Adam’s faculty advisor (and his nominator for these awards) is Professor Dave Layton. Congratulations, Adam!

Evans School graduate Allison Kelly (PhD, ’17) has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Distinguished Dissertation Awards in the Social Sciences by the University of Washington Graduate School. Dr. Kelly’s dissertation, “Improving REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) Programs”, presents three papers on the policy issues surrounding REDD+ and payment of ecosystem services programs. The award recognizes the noteworthy contributions of Dr. Kelly’s dissertation.

Prof. Kioko Wins Jesse Burkhead Award

Sharon Kioko, along with co-authors Tima Moldogaziev and W. Bartley Hildreth, were recently honored with the 2018 Jesse Burkhead Award for their article “Impact of Bankruptcy Eligibility Requirements and Statutory Liens on Borrowing Costs”. The Jesse Burkhead Award recognizes the best article published in Public Budgeting & Finance.
