Our commitment to diversity and inclusion
At the Evans School, we believe that our community should reflect the wide variety of backgrounds, opinions, experiences, and perspectives evident in the world we live in. We strive for substantive inclusion and equity, and we continually work to increase our awareness and understanding of ourselves and the communities we serve. We understand that in order to effectively serve the public, we must be exposed to multiple perspectives including physical, cultural, intellectual, and economic diversity.
Through our collaborative efforts across the Evans School community, our staff, faculty, and students work together to promote and strengthen an inclusive school environment.
Committee for Equity & Inclusion
Together students, staff, and faculty work together to promote equity and inclusion in curricular and co-curricular activities and in the recruitment of students, faculty and staff.
Several of our student interest groups focus on social justice and identity, including Partnership for Community & Diversity, Out in Public (LGBTQA), Evans People of Color (EPOC), Evans International Student Association (EISA) and Evans Network of Womxn (Evans NOW).
We offer a first-year elective course titled, Race & Equity in Public Policy & Governance that brings in community leaders and offers a critical race and equity foundation to students. All MPA students must also complete a Values, Ethics and Equity elective.
Each year we recognize one student and one faculty member from the Evans School for their contributions and willingness to be a champion for diversity at the Evans School, at the University of Washington, and in the broader community.
